History

The Sivananda Ashram was founded in 1936 by Swami Sivananda. Born in the Brahmin family in Tamil Nadu, Swami Sivanand Ji was a healer before he adopted the yogic principles and started imparting his knowledge to masses. He is one of the reputed leaders in the world of yoga.

The Sivananda Ashram is the headquarters and spiritual focal point of the worldwide organization called "The Divine Life Society". The Society encompasses more than 300 branches around the world. They have devotees in India and abroad.

Meals are served for the guests in the ashram. The food cooked is pure and sattvic, conducive to spiritual practice. Breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as tea in the afternoon are served at the dining hall. Non-vegetarian food, smoking or drinking are not permitted in the Ashram.
